HAVANA BY NIGHT 2.5.11

HAVANA BY NIGHT 2.5.11

Alberto collects us at 6.30p.m to take us to a salsa club. We headed to the famous 1830 Salsa Club at Miramar. It is an outside location on the waterfront and here the music pumps out and we watch the dancers. Lots of people come here to perfect their skills from all over the world. Kerrie and I decide we will take this up on our return! A great exercise work out!
We are mesmerized by rhythm and skills
We have dinner there, lobster cost 12 dollars, and it was grilled and loaded with salt!!
After dinner we head back to the theatre to see the ballet
Arrive at this extremely grand building a stunning sweeping marble staircase, inside there are 5 balconies  it is huge!
We are usher to row c in the stalls a great position. Very excited
Then 2 men come on the stage and talk and talk, another man comes out and speak
Where’s the ballet???
Then curtain goes up and a pianist and lady appear. Singing! After some songs she goes then 4 men appear with guitar and instruments. God the noise all out of tune, Kerrie covers her ears it’s so funny!!

Next ballet and for 5 mins we se beautiful dances doing Spanish dancing, they were stunning and so graceful! At last!
Then we have a league of nations doing  a walk on with flags!!
That was our evening of ballet Cuban style!!
The curtains were in need of repair and we had no orchestra!

New  friends Lucy and Phillip Nelson with Ernest

Anyway we head off to El Floridita to have a daiquiri where our friend Ernest Hemmingway use to drink.
It is a fab bar filled with atmosphere and a sculpture of him in his corner which reminded me so much of John!
Here we bumped into a lovely couple Lucy and Phillip Nelson from London who are staying at our hotel and had Alberto before we arrived!
We had a few daiquiris and lots of laughs listening to the fabulous music of the Cubans
Smell of cigars permeates our clothes and hair but it was worth it!!!
