13.5.11 TULUM MEXICO

13.5.11 TULUM

After our horrible experience with the bus the other day we decided to hire a cab to go to Tulum. Cost $110.00 for 4 hours just a few dollars more than if we had gone on a bus tour!

Left at 7.30 am to beat the crowds and the heat, just  an hour drive away down the coast.

We stopped at a great little place for coffee and baguette which Kerries Doctor had told her about on the way. (She has had her medication changed from Cuba and treated for virus instead of allergy, and slowly it is getting better)

We arrive and  are about the first there. Here the ruins  are right on the edge of the cliff and not quite so barren.

Even though it is warming up there is a  light breeze which is pleasant.

We hire a guide for $50.00 and off we go. He did tell us ll the animals they have here, jaguars, cougar’s, viper snakes, iguanas, tarantellas, constrictor boas and many more!

He speaks so quickly that we cant understand a word he says!!!! So just buy a book before leaving and read up on it!! Don’t bother with guide!!
An hours walk around take some photos and we leave. We are now going  to have a swim in  the grand cenote. This is another cave but not so far down in the ground as the other one we saw.
Here the water is crystal clear and we hire snorkels and goggles and view stalagmites  and stalactites under the water and hanging from the cave. The water is very deep and we go into the cave as far as it goes! Quite a different experience and again as we are early, so not many people there.

In this area of the Yatachan peninsular there are many of these caves all interconnected under ground.

So homeward bound getting home at 11.30am so we still had the day to yes, the usual swim, rest, margarita by the pool and lunch poolside . Its tough and someone has to do it!!!

A snooze  on the beach before meeting up to head off down to 5 th Ave for a drink and then we are going to be a little more adventurous and  head to a local restaurant that our taxis driver recommended near the Walmart store. Here we will have Mexican!! Rest called El Fogon.

A spot of shopping in 5 th Ave, batman, Spiderman and Dora outfits for the grandchildren, Kerries boys and my girls!  My Tom will have to wait till LA although I got him something in Cuba!!!

Alice had requested a Dora the explorer outfit and if you don’t know Dora she lives here in Mexico and speaks Spanish and her friend Diego has a pet baby jaguar!! Ive learnt all this from Kerrie while here!!!!

I cant wait to get back to watch the show!!!

We then went to the restaurant and had the meal and it was sensational, rib eye steak margaritas which was huge! Nachos , salsa tortillas and 2 beers for 2 of us cost $35.00 US!!!

Back again tomorrow night!!!
