14TH AUGUST KRISTAINSUND NORWAY LAST STOP
Well put this on your bucket list a truly stunning spot, 15,000 residents mainly fishing , the home of Klipfish, salted cod.
One of the charming features of this village is the colourful houses, they have an unwritten law that they must not paint their house the same color as their neighbors hence making it a friendly village.
Susie noted that you could buy a charming cottage for about 150,000 aud!! Not bad!
Klipfish has been processed here for 100s of years. It is salted cod that can take weeks to process then once salted can keep for 2 years.
A favorite by the Norwegians they make a dish called Bacalao with the fish which has to be soaked for 24 hours then they add potatoes, tomato, onion and oil! Umm didn’t try it but they say it is delicious. The fish is exported to Portugal Spain, Italy and Cuba. We in Australia don’t get it!
It is a large fish from North Sea, Barents Sea
Anyway I head off on a tour and Suzie stays on board and to wander the town
The scenery is stunning through forests filled with mushrooms at this time of the year and you can collect 10kgs in half an hour!
Blueberries and cloudberries can also be collected . there are walking tracks through the forests and the distance is from Norway to Japan, so what ever your level there is one for you.
Our guide tells us her experience not that long ago when she was in the forest looking at the fauna and flora. She met an old lady troll who loved talking to her about her life but would not tell her about hers. But she said she did look strange as she had strange hair ,a big nose and 4 fingers and a long tail! All these an indication of being a troll. Now trolls do like to mix with us and if yu notice that someone has 4 fingers it means they have probably been with a troll!
They are only found in Norway.
We go through sub sea tunnels , 250 metres below which connect the 3 islands of this area, and one only since 2009 when you had to go by ferry, so this trip would not have been available.
We are heading to the Atlantic road which follows the ocean and then we are going to go on a Viking boat to another little island which belongs Ragnar Thorseth the very famous Norwegain who sailed around the world in a Viking timber boat, was in Sydney harbor in 1989.
When you see the boat which is there it is amazing, the one we go in is a copy of his at it went down on one of his trips but they were able to retrieve about 65%of it which is housed at this charming island.
We are given information about the surrounding district the fishing and salting of the klipfish and then watch a movie about Ragnar and his amazing journeys in the Viking boat.
Back to the town and I meet Susie for a very quick runabout, half an hour in fact and only one shop open! Buggar and this is a very quaint place and some cute shops!
We are last back on board, they are so cute waiting for us and as we board they all say 530!! Yippee!!! We are the last as I had said to Susie I wouldn’t mind being last on board once!! We had 7 mins to spare!!!
Up to La Terrace for lunch, had yummy roast duck sitting aft in the warmth, 17 degrees!! Sipping Silver chardonnary!! That’s the brand and we like it very much!
So drinks with Manchu 5.00p.m. 7.00pm. farewell Captains cocktails and dinner with Gianni and probably 6 bloody boring people!!
