Monks in Luang Prabang
A 5.15 am wake up
call which was bloody tuff as jet lag was kicking in. Anyway up and off to see
the monks collect their food from the villagers which they do every morning. We
head down the street with Sun who buys the sticky rice to give to them. You
roll it into a small ball and each monk must get some. They are so graceful in
their Hermes orange which I love of course! All ages some so small just little
boys probably only 7 years old.
Families who can't
afford to keep them send them off. Here they are fed and educated. Sent to school
so not a bad life I guess.
After the
procession we wander down the fresh produce market which was interesting,. All
sorts of vegetables, chickens, meat ect. It was lovely and cool and fun
watching the bustle of market in Luang Prabang.
Back to Satri for
lovely breakfast then off again. Firstly to the old Kings Palace which is a
museum now then to a temple he built then another temple. There are plenty here
as every village has one!
Then we head to a
little village where they make paper out of boulser wood. Fascinating watching
the lady do it.,here also they grow silk worms who eat mulberry leaves just
like our silk worms I use to have!
(They also make mulberry
tea, which is like green tea from the new leaves, I having been drinking a lot
of this tea)
We watched them
spin the silk then weave it which was also interesting and qite untouristy
Back to the town
to Le Patio for lunch. Which was
delicious.
By this stage I'm
wilting and decide to pass on going to a waterfall. But as luck would have it
it started bucketing down! Whew so back to the hotel where I went to bed and
had a sleep! I was stuffed! Didn't want to go to dinner but I did. A restaurant
on the Mekong outside with rain pouring, rather lovely ambience but food not
great!
